My article, “Don’t Dream It, Be It” in WORD Magazine’s 50th issue, explores the significance of UCSB’s Rocky Horror Picture Show to UCSB’s LGBTQ+ community. I accomplished this by maintaining a balance between information from several outside sources and my own voice. Further, I used knowledge from my Grammar and Stylistics course to show instead of tell. Since WORD Magazine’s readers are mostly college students, I catered my writing to them.

I accomplished this by interviewing the show’s student performers and observing their rehearsals, using their personal stories to explain what the show means to them. All the while, I adhered to the unbiased standard of journalistic writing. Although I wrote the article on Google Docs, WORD magazine artists formatted the article using InDesign software. Once the magazine was completed, my article was printed in the magazine and distributed online and in physical locations in and around UC Santa Barbara.
